Congratulations to the SIotM September 2020 winner – Brigid!
Brigid joined The Coven at the beginning of 2019 and ever since that day she’s been working very hard on achieving her goals. You can meet her in classes usually 3 to 4 times a week! Brigid is now taking Intermediate level pole fitness classes and she is also a total Sensual Movement (exotic dance) class addict. Brigid was one of the performers during The Coven’s 3rd Anniversary – “We are the weirdos, mister!” and also took part in the professional photo shoot organised specially for students of The Coven last year.
Read Brigid’s story below and get inspired by her amazing journey so far!
“Pole Dancing was something that never crossed my mind prior to attending a ‘just for fun’ Workshop in the studio over a year ago. A lot has changed in that time.
I’ve grown and developed in ways I never knew I could or needed to thanks to the beautiful space of the Coven.
My fitness level prior to pole was the bare minimum amount a human needed to stay alive. I never stretched, I never ran, the most I would do is walk less than 20 minutes to my university or work and even then if I could get a lift, I was taking it!
Now, thanks to Pole, that has completely transformed. I exercise about 3 to 4 times a week. It has been one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself and my body. I appreciate my body more. When I look at myself in the mirror I don’t fixate on flaws, I focus on the strength I now have, the muscles in my arms and legs and the immaculate pole bruises I have received from the class before. I am proud of what it can do and how far it has come.
Edyta has taught me the importance and freedom in letting yourself be unapologetically expressive and creative in your own body through pole dance. I continue to love developing and growing my passion around incredibly talented and witty people in this amazing community that has been created.
In today’s world it’s too easy to become paralyzed with the fear of the perceptions of others. To hide away from your true intentions and passions, to keep yourself in a box that makes the others around you happy but which offers you nothing in return.
Pole has been my key that opens that box. I am too passionate about pole and my expression to let it do anything in my life except flourish. If you’re going to enjoy your life, if you’re going to show who you are, you may as well do it in some 7 inch heels for good measure!
Pole and Edyta have brought out a resilience I never believed I had. Sometimes the biggest struggle we have is our own brains. Telling us we are not worthy of dedicating time to the things we love or always just offering us the easy way out. I’m unconditionally grateful for Edyta’s encouragement, support and her (well needed!) tough love.
For current and future students alike I would like to let you know that you are always more resilient and stronger than you think. And you deserve to give your life everything you have!”
Thank you so much, Brigid! We are so happy to have you among our students!
